My kiddos are so into fairies lately. They love them. Tinker Bell being the all-around favorite, of course… all 3 littles love to talk about and play pretend fairies.
(Even 1 year old Maren walks around the house chanting “Bell! Yay BELL!”)
So, of course I had to encourage this sweet fairy love (because secretly I really love fairies too! Always have, always will!!) with a fun little treat.
I’ve never met a kid (or husband, for that matter!) who doesn’t love a good buttery, gooey homemade rice krispies treat, so I decided to change them up with some cake batter for flavor and a sprinkle of sanding sugar ‘fairy-dust’!
To say my kids were excited was an understatement. (It might have helped that this was Maren’s first time tasting a rice krispies treat!)
Now, you might say fairy-dust should be gold, but in this house fairy-dust is purple. Actually just about everything is purple around here. My boys are UW Huskies fans… so purple fairy-dust it is!
I have a feeling these sweet treats will be making another appearance at a certain 5-year-old’s birthday in a few weeks!
That same little someone might be getting the all-new Disney Tinker Bell movie “The Pirate Fairy” that is coming out on Blu-ray™ and Digital HD Apr 1. (Shhh…Don’t tell him!)
Considering how my kids have watched every Tinker Bell movie countless times, I can say with certainty that they will be over the moon having a new one to watch and love!

- 4 tablespoons butter
- 40 large marshmallows (one 10oz package)
- 1/3 cup dry vanilla cake mix
- 5 1/2 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 1/2 cup (or so) pretty sanding sugar or other 'fairy-dust' sprinkles
Directions
Generously butter a 9x13" pan.
In a large pot over medium heat, melt the butter and marshmallows together until smooth and combined, stirring constantly.
Remove from the heat and stir in the dry cake mix until well combined and then stir in the cereal.
Press the mixture into the prepared pan and let cool for about 10 minutes before sprinkling with the sanding sugar. Let cool for a bit until set, then cut and serve!
